Both Riverbend School and MVMS hosted student-athletes from Sullivan last Tuesday, Jan. 31. The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams played their final games of the season in front of packed gyms, tipping off at 12:45 PM.
The players sat down together for a pre-game lunch, viewing a March Madness video and discussing sportsmanship during this time. MVR-III students were instructed on good sportsmanship prior to attending the midday contests. Cheer squads from both districts performed during the games as well. The Riverbend 8th graders won 42-36, while the Sullivan 7th graders posted the victory.
Justin King, coach of the 8th grade team, said, "This was an awesome experience for the students and athletes from both schools, and all involved exhibited the best sportsmanship possible. I would also just like to congratulate my boys on working hard to earn the St. Clair Tourney Championship and an incredible 14-2 record. This awesome school-day game experience was a nice conclusion to our season."

Riverbend School is hosting the Gateway Writing Project Youth Festival on Friday, March 3, 2017, which is Riverbend's culminating activity during our 3rd annual Writing on the Walls Week. Randy Meyer is the Write On Chairperson and organizer for the event. The day will provide students with mini-sessions that focus on improving writing skills and style. The event will conclude with a celebration of writing for students and teachers. Our hopes are that not only will our middle school students be in attendance but also youth from all over the St. Louis area!
Below is a link to the flyer that details the agenda for 6-8 grade students that day as well as a link to the UMSL Gateway Writing Project website.
