Students at Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center explored new foods, built communication skills, and strengthened fine motor development this summer through Snack Group, a collaborative program led by Speech-Language Pathologist Kate Brown and Occupational Therapist Jenny Saulmon. 👏

Meeting once a week during the Extended School Year, Snack Group encouraged students to see, touch, smell, and taste a variety of nutritious foods while practicing communication, expanding their vocabulary, using utensils, and exploring colors, textures, and tastes. At the same time, students strengthened motor planning, fine motor coordination, and sensory skills through hands-on experiences.

This innovative program was inspired by professional learning at the Missouri Speech-Language and Hearing Association convention and came to life through collaboration among our Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and classroom teachers.

We are grateful for the creativity and teamwork that continue to provide meaningful learning experiences for our students. 💜

Congratulations to Kellie Cowsert, Paraprofessional at Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center, for receiving the MVR-III Pillar Award for Community. 🎉

Kellie has played an instrumental role in creating meaningful opportunities for families to connect and engage, including helping launch the Early Learning Center’s first-ever PTO and coordinating events such as the Homecoming Parade, Trunk or Treat, and the Sweetheart Dance. Her commitment to fostering school spirit, supporting students and staff, and serving the broader community has made a lasting impact across the district.

From organizing family engagement activities to volunteering on the Citizen Committee for Prop S and helping ensure student safety each day, Kellie consistently brings people together and strengthens the sense of belonging that defines our schools.

Congratulations, Kellie! 💜

All children 3-5 years old in the MVR-III School District are eligible to be screened once a school year. Children are screened in the areas of communications, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, personal-social, hearing and vision. The screenings can provide valuable information on growth and development as well as early detection of potential problems which may prevent later difficulties in school. You do not need to be enrolled in P.A.T. to have your child screened. The screenings take place at the Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center and are FREE!

Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center is officially back on our home turf. After saying a sweet goodbye to the “Big Kid” playground at Zitzman, our students couldn't wait to jump, run, and play on our beautifully renovated playground—complete with brand-new, updated soft flooring!

We are so excited for endless days of safe, fun outdoor adventures.
