Pacific High School celebrated a major milestone this week with the end-of-year celebration for the school’s very first esports team. What began as a brand-new program this year quickly developed into a competitive and close-knit group of students who made waves in both the winter and spring seasons.
Competing against dozens of schools from across Missouri, the PHS esports team showed impressive skill and sportsmanship throughout the year. During the winter season, the team earned the distinction of being the top-seeded team heading into playoffs. Although the winter playoff season was ultimately canceled due to severe weather across the state, the team’s regular-season performance proved they were a force to be reckoned with.
In the spring season, Pacific High School had teams in Valorant and League of Legends, both of which battled their way to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs, continuing their strong presence in the competitive scene.
A special shoutout goes to senior Colton Ockleston, who has been recruited to join the St. Louis Community College (STLCC) Esports team this fall for Valorant. Colton’s success sets an inspiring example for future PHS esports players and highlights the growing opportunities in competitive gaming at the collegiate level.
The celebration night was filled with recognition, laughter, and a strong sense of pride in what this team has accomplished in just one year.
Congratulations to all the players and Coach Vancil who made this inaugural season such a success. Go Indians!
