Students looking for their morning caffeine fix will soon be stepping up to a completely revitalized space, thanks to the hard work of Pacific High School’s most innovative student organization: Project PHS.
In a joint effort with the JAG program, Project PHS is currently well into the process of a top-to-bottom remodel of the school's Caffeination Station. So, what used to be an aging relic is quickly transforming into a sleek, efficient specialty beverage hub for students and staff alike.
Founded just two years ago in 2024, Project PHS is a unique club dedicated entirely to enhancing and improving the Pacific High campus through hands-on projects by students. The organization was the brainchild of Mr. Kinsley, who recognized a dual opportunity: to improve repair and beautify the school while teaching students highly practical, real-world skills. Today, Mr. Kinsley and co-sponsor Mrs. Vancil guide a dedicated crew of student volunteers who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.
"The coffee shop remodel is our most ambitious project, so far, this year," said Mr. Kinsley. "It’s not just about teaching the kids a few new skills. I want to expand their beliefs in what they’re capable of doing… and the things that can be done."
While the immediate goal is a fantastic new JAG Caffeination Station for the school community, the underlying mission of Project PHS runs much deeper. By participating in the club, students learn essential, practical skills that traditional classrooms often miss, including: basic construction, home maintenance and project management. Through Project PHS, students are gaining practical skills that will last them a lifetime.
With the remodel well underway, the finish line is in sight. Dust is settling, fresh paint is drying, and with the newly built work stations in place, the coffee shop is already running much more efficiently, providing its clientele with faster service and shorter lines at the counter.
The entire school community is eagerly anticipating the completion of the Caffeination Station renovation later this trimester. When it’s finished, the student body won't just be enjoying a great cup of coffee—they’ll be enjoying the hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship of their own peers.
