MVR-III Storm Shelter Information

The Meramec Valley R-III School District is committed to the safety and well-being of its students, staff, and the wider community. A testament to this commitment is the community storm shelter located within the gymnasium at Zitzman Elementary School (255 S Indian Pride Drive, Pacific, MO 63069), which will open at 2 p.m., Monday, April 27,  2026, and close one hour after the storm.

This state-of-the-art facility serves a dual purpose. Primarily, it provides a secure haven for our students and staff during tornadoes and extreme high wind events during school hours. Recognizing the importance of community safety beyond the school day, the shelter may open its doors to MVR-III families and residents when a tornado warning is issued, and school is not in session.

Accessibility and Guidelines for Community Use:

During times when the shelter is open to the community, individuals seeking refuge should park in the front lot for entry. To ensure the safety and comfort of all occupants, only certified service dogs are permitted inside the shelter.

Important Reminders for Our Community:

While the MVR-III storm shelter at Zitzman Elementary offers a crucial layer of protection, it is important for all residents to have their own emergency plans in place and to stay informed about weather alerts. Additionally, residents should be aware that the shelter's capacity may be a consideration during widespread emergencies.
