Missouri Day @ NE
Students at Nike Elementary were thoroughly engaged during their 2023 Missouri Day! This event is one for the books and has been celebrated at our school for around 20 years. Expert volunteers joined the students and staff at Nike to educate them on various Missouri-specific things and history. Nike Scouts spent a full day rotating through stations, where these volunteers were set up with presentations and artifacts. These members from our community shared a wealth of knowledge on topics, such as: quilting, butter-making, beekeeping, fur trapping, and more! Students were also able to visit with representatives from Robertsville State Park and Shaw’s Nature Reserve, where they learned about bats and seed dispersal. Firefighters from the Pacific Fire Protection District were onsite to give Nike Scouts some information on fire safety and prevention. Of course, we couldn’t let them leave without a tour of their fire truck and equipment! With all the hustle and bustle of getting to each station, it was a nice treat for our students to enjoy some downtime with storytelling and music. Nike staff and students were so pleased with these hands-on presentations, and we cannot thank our community volunteers enough for the opportunity to learn something new and for the resources they shared!
