May 23, 2025 – Nike Elementary is proud to announce it has been named a 2025 National School of Character by Character.org. This prestigious designation recognizes Nike Elementary's unwavering commitment to fostering a positive school culture where character development is integrated into every aspect of student life.
The National School of Character designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate exemplary implementation of Character.org's 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. This honor reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families to creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
"We are incredibly proud to receive this national recognition," said Dr. Jessica Tollison, Principal of Nike Elementary. "We teach the A, B, C’s and 1, 2, 3’s, but we are also teaching children how to be good humans. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our entire school community in nurturing not only academic excellence but also strong character in our students. We believe that developing good character is essential for our students' success in school and in life."
Nike has intentionally integrated their core values which are collaboration, critical thinking, perseverance, and respect. This promotes growth in each child socially, emotionally, and academically. Nike has ensured every student has a connection to a trusted adult by strategically making sure each staff takes time to get to know a student that is not in their classroom. Nike recently began class families, which are groups of students from all grade levels who meet throughout the year. These class families have created a supportive and inclusive community fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. Nike has made connections with the community through our service learning projects. This year we collected over 700 stuffed animals for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department to give to children during stressful situations.
Nike Elementary joins a select group of schools nationwide that have demonstrated a significant positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate through their character education initiatives. The designation lasts for five years.
