Welcome Back 2021-2022

August 3, 2021

Dear Parents & Guardians ~

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. My name is Jessica Tollison, and I am excited to serve as your principal. I have worked for Meramec Valley R-III School District for two years as the Pacific Intermediate Assistant Principal. This will be my fifth year in administration and nineteenth year in education. I hope this letter finds you and your family well, and hope that you were able to enjoy some time away this summer.

Our summer planning work has included monitoring and modifying our Safe Return to School (COVID19) Plan. Using our local data and effective practices as a guide, our Board of Education approved, on August18, that all buildings could move to our MVR-III Green Status, which is optional masks for students and those staff fully vaccinated. We want to emphasize that our safety protocols, which include masking and social distancing guidelines are fluid and could change at any time to Yellow, Orange, or Red status throughout the school year. We have learned throughout this pandemic that at times our safety and status level plans need to change based on infection/exposure rates and local health data/requirements. What we also want all of our MVR-III families to know is that our top priorities as a district are always safety and learning. Any changes in our COVID-19 status levels or precautions will always be communicated to families in a clear and timely manner in order to keep students safe and learning.

Nike has an active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The organization has traditionally sponsored activities such as Movie Night, Snowballs with Santa, Trivia Night, Spring Carnival, and fundraisers to support the school. This year we are planning to hold events. With that said, we will continue to be flexible with COVID.  Our goals as a community will be obtained with strong partnerships between the home and school. Please check out our website, download the free MVR3 App, and follow sign up with your student’s teacher on ClassDojo. Additionally, like us on Facebook at Nike Elementary.

We will focus on the “Whole Child” approach. The Whole Child approach to education and the Missouri Learning Standards is defined by policies, practices, and positive relationships that ensure each child in our school is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

School Hours                                                                                                                                                                                          The school day begins at 8:35 AM and students will be released at 3:40 PM. Students should not be dropped off before 8:05 am, there is no supervision available. If your child needs morning childcare before 8:05 am, contact the school office for information about the School Age Child Care Program registration.

Nurse News
A copy of your child’s updated shot record should be turned in to the office as many shots are required by law. Special health conditions regarding your student should be reported through our Medical Information Form filled out during registration.

School Breakfast/Lunch
Studies show that a healthy breakfast gives children a head start to a successful day. The cost of breakfast is $2.00 per day/$10.00 per week; lunch is $3.00 per day/$15.00 per week. Students may purchase extra milk for $.65 per carton. All money to be deposited into your student’s lunch account should be placed in an envelope with the student’s name, grade, teacher’s name, and the amount enclosed. MVR-III asks ALL families to complete the meal application to ensure continued funding to support ALL students in our district. All children
in households receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can get free meals regardless of income, and students from households that meet federal income guidelines are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. Periodic notices will be sent home regarding meal account balance and can also be accessed through the SIS Parent Portal System.

Birthday Celebration
In compliance with our Healthy Generation School goals, Nike will focus on healthy celebrations. Student birthdays will be recognized on our daily announcements. To comply with the national health guideline, we will no longer accept birthday or holiday treats.

Parking/Visitor Passes/Bus Transfers
It is the goal of the Meramec Valley R-III School District to provide a safe environment for students. The district recognizes that rules regarding dismissal of students are a necessary part of the district’s safety program. There is a district bus transfer procedure in place to help keep students safe after dismissal. All visitors must enter the school through the office doors with a mask. Students who are going to be picked up before the end of the school day will be released through the office only.

First Week of School
We continue to request that parents bring their students to school if they are able. If your student will be a bus rider we encourage them to ride the bus to and from school on the first day. Students need to meet their bus driver and get in the routine of those normal procedures starting day one. Help your child be successful and have a smooth transition to school by starting their day off with our friendly bus drivers. Parents are welcome to meet their student at school, on the first day, after they arrive on the bus and snap a picture outside.

School Supplies
Please refer to the district website School Supplies for a complete list of school supplies. If you ordered through the district's bulk order, your students' supplies will be waiting for them on the first day of school. The parent pick-up visor sign will be handed out at Open House.  Additional parent pick-up visor signs may be purchased for $3.00 each at the school office at any time throughout the school year.
