Storm Shelter at Zitzman Elementary Open to the Public
Thanks to the passage of Prop 1 in 2021, MVR-III was able to build the Zitzman Elementary storm shelter gymnasium. This shelter, built with reinforced concrete and impact-resistant materials, provides protection from tornadoes and winds up to 250 mph. For the safety of our community, the Zitzman storm shelter/gym will be open tonight, Friday, March 14, 2025, from 7:00 PM until the storm passes. Please park in the front lot for entry. Passage of Proposition M will positively impact every student in the MVR-III School District. This No Tax Increase bond issue will provide funds for a new 7th/8th grade building and provide a better learning space for students in grades 5 & 6. Upon completion of a new middle school, this project would immediately affect over 800 students in grades 5 - 8. However, all future students at grades 4 and below would ultimately benefit from the improved learning spaces provided by Prop M. #MVNation #MovingForwardTogether
MVR-III is offering a 4-week summer learning program for incoming K-8 students. Summer Discovery is scheduled for Monday-Friday, June 2-27. It includes hands-on STEM based games, activities, and free field trips for students in grades 1-8 (Kindergarten students will have onsite presentations). Zitzman students recently took time to celebrate their 2nd trimester progress. The day kicked off with an awards assembly, recognizing students chosen by their peers for demonstrating our 4 pillars: respect, responsibility, communication, and citizenship. Teachers also honored students who embodied our district's additional pillars of resilience, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. The celebration continued with goal setting, Gus' Pretzels, puzzle fun, and flower creations for our school-wide collaborative art project. MVR-III provides Kindergarten screenings for students kindergarten-eligible in the 2025-26 school year. Screenings are hosted at Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center unless noted. Both daytime (8:45 AM - 3 PM) and evening (4:30 - 6:30 PM) slots are available. Daytime dates are March 3, March 24 (at Coleman), April 7 (at Nike), & April 28. Evening dates are March 27 & April 15. This year, Zitzman Elementary participated in the Traveling Mural Project in an effort to connect with other school communities around the world. Each student (and even a few teachers!) designed a circle to be included on our school-wide mural. We then kept one section of the mural and distributed the others to participating schools from New York all the way to South Korea. We are extremely grateful to be able to join in on this culturally enriching program. #MVNation #GrowingTogether
