Coleman Elementary School

Third grade music students at Coleman Elementary have been building their note-reading skills! 🎼

Students learned about the staff, treble clef, and the note names for lines and spaces. After using familiar phrases like Every Good Boy Does Fine and FACE, they worked in groups to create their own sayings to help remember the order of the notes.

Their creativity led to many fun and memorable ideas! 💜

Coleman's Character Council is hosting a winter gear drive for the Agape house. Please send in items with your favorite Warrior or drop off at the main office.

Students in Ms. Jones' Kindergarten class have started the science unit: Properties of Matter! Focusing on the property of color. Students used their sense of sight to investigate and find certain colors in a magazine. The classroom was full of smiles, laughter, and curiosity!

When it's too warm to build a real snowman, you have to draw one instead. Yesterday, 2nd graders in art were busy finishing their snowman drawings. Students used oil pastels to blend and created shadows to give the illusion of three-dimension. Finishing touches included decorating their snowman to make them unique. ⛄️

Difference Makers: This week our Difference Makers are Zoey and Mazey. These girls were both walking down the hallway in a respectful and responsible way. Without knowing it, they were good leaders to another class of younger students who happened to pass by. Great Job Warriors! 💜🤍

Best way to start the day is with a good stretch. Coleman Poms had a great first day this morning. Students practiced a basketball cheer and learned a portion of their dance. Great job Coleman Poms! 💜🤍

Two of our Coleman Warriors wanted to help those in need and give back to the community. Before Christmas, Micah and Hayden donated food to fill the Coleman Food Pantry. Thank you for being Difference Makers in the community. 💜🤍

Give students a big empty box, and the possibilities are endless. One day it's a Time Machine, the next, a rocket traveling to far away places. Creative play fosters social and mental development, problem solving skills, decision making, and self-expression. Students in Mrs. Dugan's class had a "blast" using their imagination.

What words cannot describe, the smiles will. Yesterday was our annual Winter Wonderland event hosted by PTO, and as usual, it did not disappoint. The kids had a great time decorating cookies and ornaments, playing reindeer games, having a snowball fight, dancing, playing bingo, and making reindeer food. The parents, volunteers, and staff throughout the day worked so hard to make this day extra special. Thank you Coleman PTO. You all are amazing!

Polar Express Day: Students and staff were all warm and cozy dressed in their jammies today.

This week, preschool is reading "The Gingerbread Man." They decorated their own Gingerbread Man and talked about what to do if they wanted to share the cookie with a friend. They learned about two equal halves make one whole and determined that they would need to cut the cookie in half to share. As in the story, the gingerbread runs away. While the students were away, the gingerbreads tried to run away, luckily Mrs. Fingers caught them before they could escape.

Thank you so much to the Robertsville Masonic Lodge and their generous donation of $2,100 to Coleman Elementary. With the funds, we will be able to help provide for our students in need.

Our 4th Graders gave a spectacular holiday performance Thursday evening. Students dressed up in their favorite attire, and sang a wide variety of holiday songs. One song talked about everyone's favorite treat, fruit cake. Another about regifting presents. So much fun!!

Yesterday, our school nurse, Mrs. Calvin, received a special donation from Shoes From the Heart. Shoes were donated to distribute to our students in need. Thank you for your generous donation.

In an effort to keep all MVR-III students and staff safe, the district has made the decision to implement an early dismissal today. The latest weather updates indicate that the incoming weather system will arrive earlier than originally expected.

All previously scheduled after-school activities, including all afternoon classes at the Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center, have been canceled.

Early Dismissal Schedule:

* Grades 5-12: Will dismiss at 1:00 PM

* Grades K-4: Will dismiss at 2:15 PM

* SACC: Will close at 5:00 PM

Mrs. Peirick's class celebrated Thanksgiving early last week. They made thankful bracelets, disguised a turkey, and made pumpkin pies in a cup. Sounds like a fun day.

This week, our 4th graders went on a field trip to JA BizTown. JA BizTown combines in-class learning, with real life experiences in a simulated town. Our students took on roles in the community, such as operating banks, managing restaurants, writing checks, earning money, and voting for mayor.
