MVR-III hosted its first annual Family Resource Night on Tuesday, March 12. Families were treated to dinner before heading to their different destinations. Volunteers kept the younger family members occupied with various games and activities, while parents were able to sit in on their choice of informational sessions. Community and district experts shared tips and tricks on topics such as navigating power struggles, promoting language development, raising kids in a social media world, preventing drug & alcohol use, and more.
Area early childhood agencies Parents-As-Teachers and First Steps were on site to share about their programs, and district ELL (English Language Learner) and Title I staff were on hand to provide support. All Franklin County Community Resource Center agencies provided brochures, resources, and other items for family use. Preferred Family Healthcare, also utilized to run STEP (Substance Treatment & Education Program) within district buildings, answered questions about their many offerings. Agape House volunteers helped families fill out assistance packet paperwork if needed, donating a substantial amount to the event as well. The MVR-III Bridge Foundation also donated funds for the event, and Safety Net distributed free hygiene products. For an added bonus, family-themed gift baskets containing games and gift cards were awarded as attendance prizes to several attendees.
Family Resource Night allowed district families the chance to both learn about and learn from the many resource providers available in our area. Meramec Valley R-III School District would like to sincerely thank everyone who planned, participated in, and/or donated towards this successful evening.
