At a special meeting on Monday, December 8, the Meramec Valley R-III School District Board of Education reviewed the final projects funded through the district’s 2021 Proposition 1 bond issue. This action will officially complete the bond program as promised.
During the meeting, board members reviewed the remaining Prop 1 bond fund balance and held a discussion on two outstanding projects: construction of an asphalt track at Riverbend Middle School and development of a turf athletic field for baseball and softball at Pacific High School. Prop 1 had $809,325 in remaining funds available for these final project allocations.
The board was in agreement to move forward to complete these Prop 1 projects. The Riverbend track project, estimated at $300,000, will provide an all-weather fitness space for physical education classes and outdoor activities. The track will also benefit future 5th- and 6th-grade students following the construction of the new middle school.
The Pacific High School baseball and softball infield is set to be converted to a synthetic turf athletic surface. These projects offer several key benefits:
All-Weather Use: The turf will allow baseball and softball teams to hold practices and games regardless of wet conditions.
Cost Savings: It is expected to reduce ongoing maintenance time and expense.
Practice Space: The reliable turf field will be an essential resource for safe practices and physical education classes.
Once the new middle school is completed, the turf outfield will also serve as a safe all-weather PE space for 7th- and 8th-grade students.
The district is pleased to announce the successful steps currently underway toward fulfilling our commitment to the community. The completion of these final projects will mark the complete expenditure of the funds associated with the 2021 Prop 1 bond issue.
Additionally, the board reviewed bond language for the future Prop S referendum for April 7th.
For complete transparency, a comprehensive list and detailed overview of all completed projects will be made available on the Proposition 1 webpage: www.mvr3.k12.mo.us/o/mvriii/page/proposition-1.
