Two Odyssey (gifted) students initiated a research project on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG) cancer as their Genius Hour research project. Why did they choose to research DIPG? Their Odyssey teacher, Mrs. Bristow, has a granddaughter battling DIPG.
The students culminating activity was to speak to their principals to approve a Make-A-Wish fundraiser by hosting a school-wide Hat Day for all the 5th and 6th graders. The two students had to prepare a speech and secretly spoke to all of the classes about their project. They girls surprised Mrs. Bristow with a $160 donation in honor of Claire and her journey.
