The Meramec Valley R-III School District will see familiar faces in different places for the upcoming school year. With the retirement of Tina Pittman, Preschool Director, the district took the opportunity to restructure some of its administrative positions. Now that both early childhood programs are in the same building, one administrator will oversee both programs. Thus, instead of replacing the early childhood administrative position, the district has moved toward a district Director of Curriculum. By doing so, this will take some of the additional responsibilities off other building principals to allow them to focus on their primary duties.
Currently, curriculum is split between two administrators who both have other duties. The new district Director of Curriculum will oversee all curricular development for the district. Mr. David Quanz, current Nike Elementary Principal and Elementary Curriculum Director will transition to this new role on July 1, 2021. Mr. Quanz joined MVR-III in 2016 serving as principal of Riverbend School for one year and four years as the Nike Elementary Principal. He holds an Educational Specialist Degree from National Louis University of Chicago, IL. Other educational experience includes teaching second and third grade, Technology Instructional Coach for Chicago Public Schools, Assistant Principal for The Hope Institute Learning Academy of Chicago, and most recently his Principal and Curriculum Director roles in the MVR-III School District. Mr. Quanz said, “I look forward to working with and supporting all Meramec Valley R-III teachers in developing a written curriculum that will engage all learners.”
Dr. Quinn Flexsenhar will relinquish the secondary curriculum duties while transitioning his role to the Director of Alternative Programs and A+ Coordinator. Dr. Flexsenhar has worked within the MVR-III School District for the past twelve years, with his most recent role being A+ Coordinator, Early College Coordinator, and Secondary Curriculum Director. In his amended role, Dr. Flexsenhar will continue his work with the A+ and Early College programs, while leading all district alternative programs, including virtual learning expansion. When Dr. Flexsenhar was asked about his new position, he stated, “I am excited about moving into a new position that will allow our district to expand our alternative programs. I believe this is a wonderful opportunity to assist a wide range of students based upon their individual needs. There is no one-size-fits-all program that guarantees student success, so the staff and I will work with each student to identify what they need to be successful. My goal is for all students to receive the academic, college/career, and social-emotional support they need to succeed in school and life. As stated in our district mission statement: Together We Make a Difference in Doing What's Best for Kids."
